Whether it is the water of the global sea or the fresh water of the land, our lives and fortunes depend upon water. Now, a combination of growth, demand and pollution is placing enormous pressure upon this essential life-giving natural resource. We have not been taught the importance or methods of protecting, using, and managing the resources of neighboring lakes, rivers and seas, coastal zones, and continental shelves. It has not been impressed upon us that the supply of fresh water is limited and cannot be increased. This is the important message that the World Aquarium conveys in our guided educational tours. An educational tour offers an opportunity for a rich immersion experience, and a tremendous way to facilitate learning. In an educational tour, students have the chance to experience animals firsthand, connecting with the creatures and the ecosystems they live in on a much deeper level than they ever could in the classroom. It is our hope that students will gain understanding and concern for their local and oceanic aquatic ecosystems while inciting conservation actions for their preservation.
The World Aquarium has established itself as an expert in the fields of aquatic biology and marine biology both locally and worldwide. Our educational programs are effective and second to none.
By taking a guided educational tour at the World Aquarium, knowledge about aquatic ecosystems comes alive through interaction with a personal guide who shares important environmental facts and through hands-on learning as well as the importance of water to all life forms. Tours at the World Aquarium focus on environmental education, which is a learning process that increases people’s knowledge and awareness about the environment and associated challenges, develops the necessary skills and expertise to address the challenges, and fosters attitudes, motivations, and commitments to make informed decisions and take responsible action.
