Day Camps

Educating the Conservationists of Tomorrow

The World Aquarium offers four bio programs for kids and teens 8 to 20 years old to interact with a variety of animals. Depending on the program, camps may instruct participants how to be a zoo keeper, the basics of exotic animal training, and the key aspects of scientific experiments.

Space is limited. Advance reservations are required. We recommend scheduling one month in advance.

Please note: These experiences do NOT include City Museum admission. If you would like to visit City Museum before or after your scheduled program at the Aquarium, you are welcome to do so.

Please note: Camps are a DROP OFF program. If a parent wants to stay with his or her child (even if they do not physically participate), the program fee must be paid.

Sea Camp – AGES 8-12

Cost:   Half Day Program: $60 per person / Full Day Program: $100

To help inspire future generations, this special program was designed for students to experience a day in the life of an aquarium as a junior staff participant. Sea Campers are given a tour of the World Aquarium and spend the day assisting aquarium staff with regular duties. This program provides in depth exposure for children who are interested in a career with animals.

Maximum 5 participants per session.

Daily Schedule

Participants will assist in feeding and cleaning animals for the majority of the day. They will also follow along on a guided tour of the entire aquarium. Please pack a lunch and drink for full day programs. Snacks and water bottles are encouraged for half day participants.

Children must be age 8 years and older to participate.

Children under 8 years of age must participate with a parent and program fees must be paid by both parent and child(ren).

Program can only be scheduled Monday-Friday. Sea Camp is a four-hour program with morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session is from 9:00am to 1:00pm; the afternoon session is from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Each four-hour session is $60 per participant. Both sessions can be purchased at a discounted price of $100.

Junior Assistant Curator Camp – AGES 12-20

Cost:   Half Day Program: $60 per person

If you are thinking about becoming a zoo keeper, this is the program for you. Work with a sloth, anteater, kinkajou and turtles as well as all of our fish. You will work directly with a curator. Designed for middle school, high school and college students, this program will teach you day to day tasks and get you headed in the right direction for your future career.

Daily Schedule

Participants will assist in feeding and cleaning animals for the majority of the day. They will also follow along on a guided tour of the entire aquarium.  Please bring a drink (preferably water).

Program can only be scheduled Monday-Friday.  The morning session is from 9:00am to 1:00pm; the afternoon session is from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Each four-hour session is $60 per participant.

Animal Trainer Camp – AGES 12-20

Cost:   Half Day Program: $60 per person

The goal of Animal Trainer Camp is to give middle school, high school and college students an introduction in becoming an exotic animal trainer, what animal training actually means, behaviors you can train, the steps to train and providing enrichment to the animals. Students will also get an introduction in being a zoo keeper.

Daily Schedule

Students will begin the day with a ~30 minute classroom session. During this time, they will review animal basics as well as learn about the different types of training, positive reinforcement and enrichment. Later, participants will put their skills to work as well as observe a few training sessions. A guided tour of the Aquarium is included as well as a few keeper duties (time permitting).  Please bring a drink (preferably water).

Program can only be scheduled Wednesday-Friday.

Scientist In Action Camp – AGES 16-20

Cost:   Full Day Program: $100 per person

Be a junior scientist at the World Aquarium/Conservation for the Oceans Foundation and learning and applications laboratory. First, you will tour the Aquarium to learn all about its mission and animal components. Then you will learn about the scientific method for which all studies are based at the aquarium.   Then you will see our laboratories  and assist in conducting research about helping our planet. You will meet one of the biologists who will describe some of the contributions and research efforts now underway in over 33 countries. Throughout your experience, you will have the opportunity to ask lots of questions. You will also be able to assist in caring for some animals and be involved with some ongoing research projects.

Designed for high school and college students, to give participants a head start in conducting experiments, writing research papers and helping to solve problems concerning conservationists.

Daily Schedule

The beginning of the day will be dedicated to exploring our research lab, including a short classroom session. Students will learn about designing and implementing experiments as well as what it takes to write a scientific journal-style research paper. Like our other programs, participants will follow along on a guided tour of the Aquarium.

Participants will assist in feeding and cleaning animals after all other goals are completed, usually about half of the day.

Please bring your own lunch and a drink(s).
